About Khajuraho
The world renowned temple town of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh has been designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site for its magnificent archaeological and historical monuments. Mostly in ruins, the architecture of the temples of Khajuraho are unique, being very different from the temple prototype of their period. Built between 9th and 12 the century, only 22 of the original 85 temples still remain in fair condition. The stone sculptures carved in the temple beam with life and reflect richness in the art and culture of the gone era. Life in its various colors are projected in the exquisite carvings done abundantly in the temples.

The temples of Khajuraho are India's unique gift to the world, representing as they do, a poem to life, to love, to joy; perfect in execution and sublime in expression. Life, in every form and mood, has been captured in the stone carvings of Khajuraho, testifying not only to the craftsman's artistry but also to the extraordinary magnitude of vision of the Chandela rulers, under whose rule the temples were conceived and constructed. One can also plan to visit the Mahashivaratri festival celebrated here every year.
