About Kodaikanal
Extensively visited by tourists and yet very serene, the beauty of virgin nature could be best witnessed in the breathtakingly beautiful hill station of Kodaikanal. Situated 2133 m above the sea level in Tamil Nadu, the magnificent hill station was developed by American missionaries in 1845. On arrival, the tourist is greeted by orchards of pear trees with extended branches. Kodai club still relives the legacy of colonial India. Near the club is the Kodai lake with lush green trees on both sides standing like a rigid fence and giving the impression of jealously guarding unadulterated waters. On the east side of Kodai lake is Byrant Park with lots of pine and eucalyptus trees. The orchid house of the park houses different varieties of orchids. The sprawling campus of Kodaikanal school and Lutheran Church-a gothic stone building are other attractions of the place. The lush green Kodai golf club adds further charm to the place. Other places of interest near Kodaikanal are Dolphin's nose, Perumal peak, Berijam lake and Kukal cave. Both government and private hotels have thrived in Kodaikanal's intoxicating tourism atmosphere. The nearest airport is 120 kms away in Madurai and the nearest railway station 80 kms away.
