About Ranthambore
Better known for the Ranthambhore National Park, the city of Ranthambhore is an amalgam of natural beauty and historic splendours. In the 13th century A.D., Govinda, the grandson of Prithviraj Chauhan took over the reign of the land. Later his successor Vagbhatta beautified the city. The city attracts both art connoisseurs and nature lovers from all over the world.

The Ranthambhore National Park is one of the finest tiger reserves of the country. The 400 sq.kms. park comprises of dry deciduous forests spreading over rolling terrain of the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges. It’s rich flora and fauna includes approximately 300 trees, 50 aquatic plants, 272 birds, 12 reptiles (including the marsh crocodile) & amphibians and 30 mammals.

The park is set against the backdrop of the ancient Ranthambhore Fort, built in 994 AD atop a 200 metres high hill. Numerous ruined pavilions, walls, and splendid monuments are strewn within the grand fort. There are three Hindu temples, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, inside the fort. An 8th century A.D. Ganesh temple on an open land attracts innumerable devotees and is the venue for an annual fair held on Bhadrapad Sudi Chaturthi.
